A day after police closed all four Hamilton locations of an illegal cannabis dispensary, changing the locks and baring the doors, Georgia Peach simply moved down the road and opened shop.

On Friday, the chain opened at 76 George St., in Hess Village, in the former location of another dispensary, the Blue Ox, and down the road from one of its shuttered shops.

Hamilton Police Deputy Chief Dan Kinsella said he was flooded with messages from people on Friday noting the bold reopening.

“We were prepared for this on some level,” he said. “It shows the resources of some of those in this illegal industry.”

The new location was happily shared by Georgia Peach on social media.

“Hi everyone! The only Georgia Peach location that will be open today is 76 George Street Hamilton in Hess village. Come by and show your support and check out our new location!” Georgia Peach posted on Twitter Jan. 25.

On Thursday, the Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team, which includes three Hamilton officers, seized 250 pounds of process cannabis, 100 pounds of resin and $50,000 in Canadian cash during the raids.

The properties on George Street, Dundurn Street South and two on Upper James Street were seized under new powers granted by the Ontario Cannabis Act.
